St. Mary's County Government’s (SMCG) Citizens Academy provides participants with the opportunity to learn more about county government programs and services. The academy includes 8 weeks of classes over a 10-week period. Week 9 offers optional attendance (in-person or virtual) to the Commissioner’s quarterly public forum and the program culminates with a recognition ceremony on week 10.
The 2025 Citizens Academy will be held from September 16 – November 18. Classes will be held for the first 8 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Participants are required to attend at minimum 7 of the 8 class sessions.
The signing SMCG Citizens Academy applicant (“Applicant”), releases and forever discharges and holds harmless the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, its Departments, Boards, Commissions, Committees, agents, employees, and representatives, from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind and nature, either in law or equity, whether for bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, invasion of privacy, or property damage, which arise in connection with the participation in the Citizens Academy program.
The applicant also understands that St. Mary’s County Government does not carry, maintain, or provide health, medical, or disability insurance coverage for Citizen Academy participants and does not assume any responsibility or obligation to provide financial or other assistance, in the event of injury or illness suffered by participation. Each applicant is expected and encouraged to hold or obtain his or her own medical, health, and disability insurance.
The applicant agrees that if any clause or provision of this Release & Waiver of Liability shall be held to be invalid, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this Release & Waiver of Liability, which shall continue to be enforceable.
I authorize St. Mary’s County Government to use my image or voice or both in any media format (including, but not limited to, cable television broadcasts, videos, internet communications, and publications). I release the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County from any and all claims and liability regarding the making or use of any audio or visual recording of my image or voice or both (including claims related to rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional).
