Environmental Planning

The Environmental Planning Division protects St. Mary’s County’s sensitive natural areas by applying State and County regulations and working closely with property owners, surveyors, and engineers. The division coordinates with state agencies—including MDE and the Critical Area Commission—to safeguard wetlands, waterways, and the Chesapeake Bay. Staff also supports the Commission on the Environment and participates on the Patuxent River Commission. Through these efforts, the division balances property owner needs with the preservation of the County’s natural environment, heritage, and rural character.
