Sea level rise is the increase in the level of the world’s oceans due to the effects of global warming. For coastal communities such as St. Mary’s County, sea level rise has increased the risk of erosion, storm surge damage, and flooding.

Sea-levels impact on the shoreline
Sea-level rise following heavy storms can lead to erosion and flooding in vulnerable areas, resulting in the loss of natural habitats. Rising temperatures, increased sea levels, and more intense storm surges will exacerbate shoreline erosion and cause further damage to property and infrastructure.
