Permits

The Permits Division serves as the starting point for all building activity, ensuring projects comply with the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, and applicable building and trades codes (IRC, IBC). In addition to conducting initial reviews, the team coordinates and facilitates multi-agency and interdepartmental reviews to confirm that projects receive necessary approvals. The Permits Division manages the collection of permit fees and required bonds, ensuring accuracy throughout the permitting process. As the department’s frontline staff, the division provides guidance and assistance to applicants, contractors, and the public, helping them navigate regulatory requirements and resolve issues efficiently. The team also maintains comprehensive and accurate digital records of permits, plans, and approvals, supporting transparency, and long-term record retention.

Have your application number? View your permit status online. The status of the permit application will show "Pending" beside a required Agency so long as that Agency has not finished reviewing the application. If the status is listed as "On Hold", simply click on the words "On Hold" and specific comments will show why. When the status is listed as "Approved" please contact the Permit Office to check on the final details of the application before picking up the permit. This will allow our staff to verify that everything is in order and what total fees are due.
